SFL RULES

DIVISIONS

Division 1 (Beginner):
   0 to 12 months of grappling experience

Division 2 (Intermediate):   1 to 3 years of grappling experience

Division 3 (Advanced):   3 years and over of grappling experience

WEIGHT CLASSES
Lightweight:   Under 155 lbs

Middleweight:   155 to 174.9 lbs

Light-heavyweight:   175 to 194.9 lbs

Heavyweight:   195 lbs and over

BOUT DURATION
Two rounds of three minutes

A third round will be added if there's no winner after regulation

In overtime, the fight is stopped after the first submission

A one minute rest period will occur between each round

WAYS TO WIN
Submission(s)

- Having more submissions than the opponent in 2 rounds of 3 minutes.
- Win by submission during the sudden death overtime.

Point(s)

- Mount and back mount position kept 3 seconds.
- Each position give 1 point.
- These points are used only to find a winner after a draw match.

Forfeit

- If the opponent can't complete the fight.

Warning

- When a fighter receives 2 warnings for the same foul or a total of 3.

FOULS
1st time: warning, 2nd time: disqualification
Subject to immediate disqualification

Speaking
Hair pulling
Fish hooking
Touching groin area
Scratching, clawing, pinching or twisting the flesh
Knee, hand, feet or elbow on face
Fingers through the throat or eyes
Grabbing the clavicle or the ear
Faking an injury
Holding the clothes of an opponent
Using any slippery substances
Striking of any kind
Butting with the head
Biting
Spitting
Arguing with the referee

ILLEGAL TECHNIQUES

Any neck cranks including can opener
Pressure points
Choking with the hands
Kneebar, ankle lock and foot lock (division 1)
Heelhooks
Small joint manipulation
Twisting knee attacks
Slamming an opponent on the head
Body slam from the guard in standing position
